Deepwater
exploration has lead to the acquisition of very large 3D
surveys that are often poorly calibrated by drilling. These
datasets usually need to be interpreted in a very short
timeframe, but prospects need to be analyzed in considerable
detail to minimize risk. The conflict between tight
deadlines and intensive analysis is often compounded by the
lack of calibration and this presents the 21st Century
geophysicist with a set of new challenges.
The Deepwater Seismic Interpretation Skills Course is a
practical seismic interpretation course aimed at all
explorers working in the deep marine environment i.e.
anywhere from the North Sea to Angola. The course is run by
Philip Fish and Simon Lunn, who are both practising seismic
interpreters with considerable experience of deepwater
datasets and the deep marine environment. The course will
cover all aspects of interpretation from the full suite of
geological models to interpretation tools and techniques and
volumetric and risk assessment.

Representatives of the following companies, amongst
others attended the inaugural course.

Here is some of the feedback from the inaugural course;
"the quality and variety examples in the course was outstanding and the practical work was very well constructed and thought
provoking"
"the course manual is excellent"
"very comprehensive and wide ranging"
"I was enlightened by the examples and methodology
presented"
The course is run publicly, but can also be arranged
on an in-house basis, which has the added benefit of
allowing frank and informed discussion between
company interpreters.
